RAWHIDE EXPERIENCE PROGRAM 2025
Requirements for the REP Program
Details of the REP Program
Goal of the REP Program
The goal is for each participant to grow in proficiency and competence in Rawhide’s program through specializations while honing their teaching skills and further developing people skills. All useful skills to be added to a resume for future school or work-related endeavors.
Application Process
We encourage all those with initiative, a positive work ethic, and ready for the challenge of leadership to apply. All applicants are chosen based on a variety of factors including merit and ability. No one is guaranteed a position. Forms can be downloaded. Application and all references are due by February 28.
Applicants will be notified by mid-May of their status in the program after all interviews have been completed. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of spaces in our program. Not all who apply are accepted. We are looking for applicants with a strong interest in personal growth and giving back to the Rawhide community. All those invited to participate should understand the opportunity is a privilege and approach it with a sense of responsibility, enthusiasm, and commitment.
Requirements for the REP Program
- Must have finished their junior year of high school and/or be 17 years old for the duration of the four-week program.
- Must be able to attend all four sessions (1-2 / break over day camp / again 3-4) from June 15 to June 27 and again July 6 to July 18. Off day camp week from June 29 to July 5. These dates are NOT flexible, and applicants must be available for the entire four-week program. First Sunday check-in at 9:30am.
- The fee for the REP program is $600 total ($299 of this fee is non-refundable if one cancels prior to the start of the program).
- Based on Rawhide’s need, successful completion of the program makes one eligible to be considered for a paid Jr. Staff position over sessions 5, 6, 7, 8 and/or 9.
- Must be prepared to serve others while taking on an active leadership role at camp.
Details of the REP Program
- Learn by doing things in a safe environment.
- Half the day will be spent in an area of specialization (horsemanship, animal science, or camp recreation program) based on interest with Rawhide staff making the final selection. Over the course of the program, the participant will have the opportunity to engage in two specializations.
- Potential opportunities to gain experience in other aspects of the program like elective teaching.
- Designated REP time for learning, reading, completing assignments, and group discussions.
- Assigned to a counselor and cabin of campers each week. Time will be spent “shadowing” during meals, free time, coffee breaks and evening activities with the goal of gradually moving into overnight stays in cabins. This will provide the opportunity to further develop leadership skills while reinforcing their knowledge and comfort with the various age groups at camp.
- Co-counseling with a counselor based on Rawhide’s need and an individual’s readiness determined by Rawhide’s leadership team.
- Help make the show a safe and rewarding experience for our campers, rather than participating for their own benefit.
- Promote and maintain the recycling program.
- Evaluations and/or debrief sessions for the purpose of learning personal strengths and to set tangible goals for growth opportunities.
- Time off provided every Friday evening after all camp clean up at approximately 4:00 p.m. to Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Participants are required to leave the ranch for some needed rest and relaxation due to their demanding schedule, the elevated level of expectation placed on them, and their lack of free time during the week.
