When campers arrive
for the first time they become designated as "Ranch Hands."
After animal science courses, riding lessons and many other electives,
Ranch Hands graduate to the higher levels. After passing any test, the
Ranch Hand gets to play games during Sunday night orientation.
HORSE
RIDING
- Buckaroo
To earn this designation, a Ranch Hand must pass a written
test in horse science and show proficiency in horse handling and equestrian
safety. Buckaroos earn the privilege of advanced class programs and
help teach riding and horse science classes to new Ranch Hands.
- Wrangler
To earn this designation, a Ranch Hand must pass the
basic written test in horse science, have their Driver's License, and
show proficiency in horse handling and equestrian safety. Wranglers
have all Buckaroo privileges plus they have special dining privileges,
can be in additional events at the weekly horse show and ride in saddles.
ANIMAL
SCIENCE
- Greenhorn
Special privileges during Animal Science, such as
being able to walk a goat around the farm. If they are a B-Teamer (or
above), they can go to vaulting during animal science.
- Stockman
Stockmen earn the right to use the side window at the
Sweet Shop, can work with their animal project during free time and
eat dinner in the Saloon.
- Farmer
Farmers are allowed to use
the side window of the Sweet Shop, can eat in the Saloon at all meals,
and can work with their animal(whether it be a calf, a goat, or a llama)
during their free time, and can be in two events in the show. They receive
this distinction after demonstrating their ability to perform certain
tasks and taking a written test to prove their knowledge of animals.
VAULTING
- B-Team
To become a B-Teamer, Ranch
Hands must pass a test of ability doing moves that they practice during
the week. If they pass, these new B-Teamers participate in a special
vaulting class and can do special new moves in the weekly show.
- A-Team
After
receiving three third, second, first, or Grand places in the show, B-Teamers
must show special talent and be able to perform simple vaulting moves
without a spot (or helper). A-Team vaulters may use the side window
of the Sweet Shop, eat dinner in the Saloon, and can be in two show
events.
RIFLERY
- Rifleman distinction
means this camper has been trained and tested to a higher degree and
has earned privileges to shoot BB, pellet and/or .22 caliber rifles
without attending the safety class each session.
ARCHERY
- Huntsman distinction
means this camper has been trained and tested to a higher degree and
has earned privileges to shoot archery and does not have to attend the
safety class each
session.
DRIVER'S
ED
- Driver's License
Ranch Hands can earn
this distinction by taking a written test demonstrating their knowledge
of the pieces of the cart they drive, and then by proving their ability
to set up and drive these pony-drawn carts. With
a Driver's License, kids are allowed to drive the carts on Sunday.
