Returning campers looking for new things to try??? Check out the new electives available this summer.  The Soccer, Rodeo, and Farm Life electives will be “super-sized”!  These double-period electives will allow you more time to explore, discover, and learn.

To help us with our planning, advance registration is required for these super-size electives. Space is limited so register early.  For the specific weeks that each new elective will be available please check the registration form. If your camper is interested in trying out one of the new electives be sure to mark the “add super-size elective” box.

Basic Soccer Skills Super-sized Elective*
(recommended for ages 7-12)

Balls flying, whistles blowing, the sound of teammates thundering down the field, fans cheering...  Come experience a unique opportunity to be a soccer playin’ cowboy/girl at the Ranch; bring today into the Wild West!  We will be teaching all of the basic skills necessary to play a good game of soccer with your mates.  You will have an opportunity to explore simple offensive and defensive formations, all of the various positions out on the field, run through numerous skill building drills and put it all together for some fun scrimmage games.

Introduction to Rodeo Super-sized Elective*
 (recommended for ages 7-15)

This supersized elective has reach it's Ranchhand capacity for 2008 Camping Season.

Stay on for the 8 second ride.  Distract and dodge the steel bull and be a hero.  Rope a crazy critter just in the nick of time.  Feel the competition pump through your veins.  Become part of a fearless team.

Taste some of the dirt and sweat of the legendary “Rodeo.”  Come and experience the risk, courage and exhilaration of theRodeo with Bobby Conwell, a local bull fighter and retired bull rider.  Bobby will be training these steadfast Ranch Hands the basics of what it takes – from roping, to bull and bareback riding on the infamous Rawhide bucking barrel, to bull fighting our sturdy steer headed wheelbarrow, to the fundamentals and business of a Rodeo professional.

Farm Life Super-sized Elective*
(recommended for ages 9-15)

This supersized elective has reach it's Ranchhand capacity for 2008 Camping Season.

Ever wonder what it would be like to wake at dawn to the crowing of a rooster to start your day on the farm?  Well, we don’t have a rooster, but we sure do have a farm and a set-up just for your inner farmer spirit.  Come be a part of the authentic farm life.  Collect freshly laid eggs for breakfast, predict the weather for the day, plant and harvest your own crops, herd sheep with your ranch dog, make your own soap from fresh goat’s milk, tend to farm animals, learn the basics of tracking, become a blacksmith and design your very own brand…  come live the Farm Life at Rawhide.

*For returning campers who have completed one (or more) ranks (i.e.  A-team or B-team, Buckaroo, Wrangler, etc.) participation in a super-sized elective may limit your participation in your special classes for your rank.

The week of August 17-23 will feature a totally new camp session here at Rawhide Ranch!

Intensive Horsemanship Camp (IHC)

(Coed, ages 10-15 only)**

Come one, come all!  It’s the experience you have all been asking for… come get chest deep into the horse experience!

I’m tellin’ ya;’ by the end of this week you will have horses coming out of your ears.  Covering as many aspects of the equine field that we can possibly fit in to one week’s time, we have our traditional “western riding”, gymkhana, grooming and tack, pony games, horse and pony animal care time, showmanship, driver’s ed., vaulting, horse training, learning about pack horses for excursions, and guest speakers with demonstrations -  horse veterinarian, Ferrier and horse behaviorist.

Classes are longer and you have the opportunity to create your schedule so that you do not go a single class without the company of a horse or pony.  And if you need a break, you have the option during elective time to cool off in the pool, write about your awesome experience for the camp newspaper, dance it up to some good ol’ country or be a star on stage in drama class.  It’ll be great, come join the fun.  Yeehaw!

**Camper age requirements for this session is not based on horsemanship skill level.  Min. age will be 10 years of age for this session.  Note: No testing for or working toward camp ranks will be available during the IHC camp session.
